Weaving workshops in Chelmsford

Ready for a deeper dive into the world of weaving?

You might have seen clips on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok of weavers doing fiddly things with complicated bits of equipment and thought “wow, I wish I could do that”. Well, you can! It’s true that weaving can require complex (and expensive) bits of kit, but it doesn’t have to. If you’ve been to one of my low-tech weaving classes, you’ll know that you can do surprisingly complex things with just a bit of cardboard and some scissors.

But if you’re ready to take the next step up, you might be interested in my longer workshops. In these, we look at skills like belt loom weaving (also sometimes called backstrap weaving). These workshops normally come in two parts: In the morning, we’ll go through the essentials of setting up and using one of these looms to create a simple but beautiful piece of fabric. If you want, you can then stay on for the afternoon to look at some more advanced skills, such as using inlays to weave designs into your fabric, or using multiple shuttles to create traditional weaving designs like houndstooth or log cabin designs.

Absolutely no experience is required, all the equipment and materials are provided, and the workshops are designed to make sure you walk away with your first completed piece of weaving!
